ECUADOR
COSTA ESMERALDAS -
SINGLE ESTATE CHOCOLATE
Costa Esmeraldas is a family owned and operated 100-hectare cacao farm. All members of the Salazar family (Freddy, Monica, and siblings Freddy and Indira) actively participate in the cacao
business. Management of the cacao orchards creates over forty full-time jobs within the local community. The cacao orchards were established on former cattle pasture with very steep terrain. Along with Nacional hybrid cacao trees, dierent fruits - oranges, limes, lemons, bananas, plantain, and papaya, are interspersed to reduce erosion on the steep terrain. Trees bear fruit from June to February with peak harvest running July through September.
